Electric/Eclectic

In 2019, the Museum of Science and Industry hosted Electric/Eclectic, a creative black-tie event billed as an “immersive evening for curious minds.” Guests snacked on 3D-printed bites, explored the Museum’s Fab Lab (a digital fabrication space), tested the latest virtual reality tech, and enjoyed the Museum’s newest exhibit Wired to Wear.

Challenged to take a more youthful approach to the Museum’s annual Columbian Ball, an historically formal event, the creative team explored how to include elements from the newly-opened Wired to Wear, which featured the latest in wearable technology. We wanted the event to feel electric, with a fresh and lively atmosphere. From fashion to technology, an eclectic range of elements also inspired the evening’s design. And thus, Electric/Eclectic was born.

The final design playfully experimented by pairing opposites: hypercolor hues on stark a white background, holographic foil on uncoated paper, and high-contrast playful display type played against no-nonsense monospace type.

Deliverables included both print and digital elements (web graphics, animated gifs for emails, digital presentations, large format signage, and night-of-event menus) including the pieces featured below.
